Book of Job - Chapter 1 v13 - 19

"Job Loses Everything…"

SCRIPTURE:

One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you." While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!" While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the older brother’s house, when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"

INSIGHTS:

APPLICATION:

    • It is the timing of the devil’s attacks, as much as the magnitude, that can crush us.
    • The devil began tempting Jesus after his 40 day fast
    • "When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left Jesus until an opportune time." Luke 4:13
    • The death of innocent children
    • Elie Wiesel, a holocaust survivor, wrote his 1960 book entitled Night, recalling the night he first saw the flames of Auschwitz.
    • "Those flames that consumed those innocent children consumed my faith forever and murdered my God."
    • Certainly, God could have prevented the holocaust as He did in the days of Esther.
    • God saved the baby Jesus, but what about the other babies in Bethlehem that were slaughtered?
