One of the best book I have read on the subject of suffering - no
suprise, it's Joni! She weaves her points on suffering through scripture
reuslting in a clear, joyous and humbling message.

The tragic, yet beautiful story of Joni Eareckson Tada. A great book
to start with if you have encountered unconquerable trials. A young,
athletic, beautiful teenage girl has a swimming accident and ends up paralyzed
and forced to a wheelchair. The story follows her long journey -- from the
deepest depths to finding Christ in her life! You won't believe what Joni had
to overcome, and more importantly, you won't believe where she ended up!

Highly theoretical and almost impossible to follow. I finally
decided just to read chapter 7, On the Problem of Human Pain. I still
struggled. I wasn't ready for this deep a book!

Wow! What a book! I found the book started slow, and then - - from
chapter 6 to the end of the book (chapter 20) - - the book was excellent, full
of thought provoking insights. The book even includes study guide questions in
the back. I couldn't begin to detail all of the good qualities of this book - -
This is a must read!

This man is qualified to write on this topic - he lost a leg as a
child and serves as chaplain at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New
York. There were so many good points in this book. Rabbi Krauss shows us how
to deal honestly and truthfully with the suffering, to listen intently with the
heart and the mind, to truly putting yourself in the shoes of the suffering
person. The book included wonderful examples. One strong message was that all
people need a purpose in life, something to call their own. Krauss calls it the
driving force in all of our lives. This book helps the suffering down the path
to finding this purpose.

Lawson wrote a great book on interpreting the book of Job! Very informative with the right mix of teaching, story telling , application and insight. He starts out by explaining the current world war in which we are all "foot soldiers" (of course this is the spiritual war of good vs evil where the battlefield is the souls of mankind and at stake is the eternal destiny of mankind!) He then goes to Angels 101 and explains the role of Satan in our world. Included are Lawsons insights on how to combat depression, the four spiritual "flaws", handling criticism and how to counsel. My favorite parts were explaining the role of Elihu (beginning in chapter 32 of Job) and of God's response to Job (beginning in chapter 38 of Job). This is a good read if you want to study the book of Job!
The focus of this book is finding joy in your life - despite the
circumstances. Hansel has been living with extreme daily pain and he was able
to write this honest and beautiful book. The book is more of a light read than
a deep theological disucssion. It fired me up to look at life more preciously,
to notice the beauty in the ordinary. I recommend this book for anyone who is
having a difficult time (and who isn't or won't?) and needs to focus on their
blessings more than their liabilities.
